New Premium Membership Feature: 10% off!You may have already heard, but we just launched a new feature as part of the Premium Membership package... Premium Members now receive an ongoing 10% discount on Prints and deviantWEAR purchases! That means they'll be saving 10% on all Photo Prints, Fine Art Prints, Wrapped Canvases, Art Gifts, T-shirts, Backpacks, Hoodies, and the rest of our devious gear. If that wasn't a sweet-enough deal, we've made it so that this discount stacks with most other sales that happen in our shop. For example, if we're running a 15% discount on Fine Art Prints, Premium Members will get a total of 25% off because of their additional 10% discount. Why are we doing this? Why not?! We wanted to add this discount as a small token of our appreciation for all the support Premium Members provide us. While we have many more upgrades in the works for the Premium Membership package, I'm excited that we were able to get this to you all in time for the holiday season. How's it work?

PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your workHello all! Well we’ve had a fascinating week so far; a week which hopefully has provided some insight not only to the process of DD selection but helped you understand what we look for in DDs as CVs. As we draw to the end of this week, I bring you an article which will whet your Saturday with thoughts that don’t just apply to the DD feature, but something which should be a consideration to everything you submit to dA. I am talking about deviation presentation. Why is Presentation important?Art isn’t always about just being “creative”. There are techniques and skills which develop over time which contribute to the quality of the work you produce and alongside this comes a developed understanding of good presentation.Good presentation could be anything from cropping a photograph, to spell checking your literature. These are common sense things that in the rush of wanting to show off your creativity can sometimes be
Photography Troubleshooting: Snap to ProThis week we bring you another issue of Troubleshooting for Photographers, to hopefully give you some tips and explanations behind how to make your Photography look that little bit more professional. Aeirmid noted that while there are a lot of folks in the photomanipulation community who enjoy taking photographs, there is also a great desire for people to learn a bit more about how to make them look more professional.Firstly combining the elements of many of the articles that have already been written in this series (see the bottom of this article for links) will assist anybody in gearing their photographs up to look more professional. However IsacGoulart summed it up quite neatly with this rather epic quote... “Beauty can be seen in all things, seeing and composing the beauty is what separates the snapshot from the photograph." Getting your work up to some sort of standard is always tricky. Especially if you are setting the standar
New Pope: Gay Marriage is the Work of the DevilHere's a 2010 equalitopia article by r0b where the newly elected Pope Francis (Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio) describes gay marriage as being the work of the devil:Argentina’s highest-ranking Catholic prelate has warned that the country’s gay marriage bill is a “machination” of the devil, reports Pink News. Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio has called on priests in Buenos Aires, where he is archbishop, to protest against the bill, which is progressing through Argentina’s parliament. In a letter to the monasteries of Buenos Aires, he wrote: “Let’s not be naive, we’re not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God .. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.
Project Educate: Permission to Photograph People Permission to Photograph People It's a tough topic and one that most of us like to shy away from rather than embrace, but the honest truth is that the shots of people that you get - the best kind - are the ones that are candid, journalistic or spontaneous. That usually means asking permission afterwards, or not asking permission at all - which can appear quite odd, to some. One of my biggest concerns and anxieties is having my camera out in public. I recently went to a beach, of all places, and was shooting the coastline when a horrible feeling crept over me and I realised that there were lots of people around and that I was invading, a little bit, on their privacy. These guidelines are useful for shooting on the street, at public gatherings and events and at more formal occasions such as weddings. If the person is going to be the main subject of your photo - then it's kind to ask permission, get perm

PE DD Week: A DD is not an award, but a feature.A DD is not an award but an art feature.There. I said it. A DD is not a prestigious award that will change your life drastically, it's just a 24h feature. But why is it so important to make this distinction? It's just a way of naming something and therefore should not be of great importance, yet it makes all the difference in how people perceive a DD.On the importance of terminologyAs mentioned in the intro, the biggest problem when it comes to Daily Deviations arises with the choice of words used to describe what a Daily Deviaton is. When you call it an award, people will automatically assume that the Daily Deviation is the cream of the crop of every deviation posted ever on this site and that no art featured after it should be able to be perceived as "worse". However, when you call it a feature, most people are fine with the picked deviations and don't even hold them to the high standards of living up and

Daily-Deviations Group Is Expanding ServicesWHAT DO WE DO?The short answer, we are a group that suggest art for the ever so wanted Daily Deviation Award and feature art of all kinds. How does it work? Well we're glad you asked! Well there's a few ways this process works out.You can either submit a piece of your own work that you feel deserves a DDYou can suggest the work of another artist/writer which you deem DD worthyThe administration can suggest work they find DD worthyOnce a piece is submitted, our incredible staff will evaluate the work. Part of the evaluation includes, but is not limited to the following criteria:Is it a finished piece? How is the composition of the piece? Is it original? How does it compare to past DD awarded pieces in its genre (We base this on the DD-Catalogue found here DD-Catalogue or DD-Catalogue)If the piece is accepted by an admin, at the least one admin will suggest the piece to a GM (well they will soon be changing th
