"I'm very hard to catch. And if they can't catch me, they can't kill me. So don't count me out." ―Rue
By far my most requested hunger games character. Here she is.....the lovely Rue!
Rue was such a beautifully written character. even though she wasn't in the book, or series, as long as some of the other characters, she still left a lasting impression in my mind. Katniss' relationship with Rue was one of the only things that made me like Katniss. I thought that for most of the books she was mostly a brat. i felt like the movie rushed their relationship to the point that you didn't really understand it. which makes me happy that i read the book
Anyway!!! I hope you like her.
can i just say how shocked i was that people were genuinely upset that rue was portrayed by an African American girl. here is katniss' description of rue word for word:
"And most hauntingly, a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes, but other than that, she's very like Prim in size and demeanor." ―Katniss Everdeen
Even I had a friend tell me that they envisioned Rue as a TAN girl. i was just like ". . . . . . .umm okay".

Really? People were actually angry that Rue was dark-skinned? That was exactly how I imagined her when I read the book series, and was nothing but delighted and sad when she appeared in the movie! She's...just SO adorable... I've always loved Rue!
Some people are just racist. It wouldn't surprise me if they believed everyone in Africa was just a bit tanned.
I agree with your description of Rue so much! While their relationship was developing, I thought "yes, finally a bit of Katniss' humanity emerges!" because up until that point, I didn't like her much. Outside the games she was quite bratty (her behaviour was pretty strange for someone being sent to their death for entertainment, less trauma and fear, more childish and stroppy) and inside the games she seemed sociopathic. But then while she was with Rue, she was looking after her and getting to know her, and the bit with the flowers just broke my heart. <3
Anyway, I'm rambling. This picture is beautiful, really captures Rue's 'innocence'. She looks so cute, you just want to give her a big hug!
Rue was and is my favorite. Next to Finnick. She was different from everyone else, a little bit childlike still in an adult situation that made everything hard. I hated how she died. Hated it. I cried over that scene in the book and I cried over it in the movie. She was just too cute to die.
